Aglaia Konrad, Concrete City, Ludwig forum Aachen

A second work by Aglaia Konrad bears the title “Concrete City”. Here Konrad uses an exhibition system originally designed by the Italian-Brazilian architect Lina Bo Bardi for Sao Paulo’s art museum. The miniature versions of the museum displays do not function here as transparent hanging surfaces for paintings but rather as postcard holders. She is particularly interested in postcards which combine the location they feature with a design idea, typical of tourism in the 1960s. “Concrete City” is thus a transportable monument of itself, one in pocket-sized format.
