Aglaia Konrad, Frauenzimmer, STUK, Leuven, vernissage 28 mars

einladung

Brussels-based artist Aglaia Konrad (°1960, Salzburg) has been giving a new dimension to ‘architecture photography’ for years, by integrating her images in a spatial context. She broadens conventional forms of presenting photography and, giving it a physical quality. In this exhibition, Konrad constructs a space-filling wall that swirls through the room and fills it with thematically grouped images. Monumental, wall-filling prints of different spatial circumstances give an almost illusionist character to one of her work’s key concepts: sculptural architecture. For her exhibitions and books, Konrad often draws on an enormous archive of images made in a wide range of special cities and places. The immaterial reality of images often coincides with the material reality of the exhibition space. The work as such is neither ‘architecture’ nor ‘sculpture’. It is an intriguing and layered visual research situated in the space between.
