Aglaia Konrad crée pour le Mu.ZEE une nouvelle installation spatiale. Sa démarche consiste à se baser sur l’architecture du lieu d’exposition. Celui-ci se compose de deux espaces attenants, mais très différents, qui n’ont pas été conçus pour accueillir des expositions. L’un d’entre eux faisait office d’espace de stockage pour la coopérative S.E.O., tandis que l’autre établit une connexion avec la réalisation ultérieure de l’architecte Gaston Eysselinck. La forêt de colonnes, les différents niveaux et la façon dont l’architecture a été transformée et désoriente constituent le point de départ de l’installation d’Aglaia Konrad.
Grâce à plusieurs interventions spatiales, elle souligne la singularité de l’architecture. Les deux salles endossent un nouveau rôle, respectivement en tant qu’espace intérieur privé et espace extérieur public. Aglaia Konrad conserve les murs inexploités et interrompt la circulation. L’extérieur est aspiré vers l’intérieur à l’aide de miroirs et d’une nouvelle série de photos issues de l’étude de l’architecte d’intérieur Alina Scholtz (1908-1996, Pologne). L’installation sonde les rapports entre l’intérieur et l’extérieur, ainsi qu’entre espace privé et public.

La deuxième édition de la Biennale internationale de la photographie d’Ostende met en lumière des œuvres photographiques contemporaines et conceptuelles dans divers sites intérieurs et extérieurs. Un itinéraire jalonné d’œuvres surprenantes de trente photographes traversera la Reine des plages, du Fort Napoléon au Mu.ZEE. et en lumière. Cette deuxième édition aura lieu du 16 septembre au 12 novembre 2023.

Aglaia Konrad has created a new spatial installation for Mu.ZEE. Inherent to her practice is that she starts from the architecture of the exhibition space. This consists of two very different contiguous halls that were not designed as exhibition architecture. One part served as storage space for S.E.O. department store and the other connected it to Gaston Eysselinck’s later architecture. The forest of pillars, the different levels and the way in which the architecture was transformed and disorients are the starting point for Aglaia Konrad’s installation.
She emphasises this idiosyncratic architecture with various spatial interventions. The two halls are given a new role as private inner zone and public outer space. Aglaia Konrad leaves the walls unused and breaks up the circulation. The exterior is drawn in with mirrors and with a new series of photos based on research into the landscape architect Alina Scholtz (1908-1996, Poland). The installation thereby questions how inside and outside, as well as private and public, relate to each other.

The second edition of the International Photobiennial Ostend highlights contemporary and conceptual photographic works in various indoor and outdoor locations. A trail of surprising works by more than 30 photographers will take place in the Queen of seaside towns, from Fort Napoleon to Mu.ZEE. This second edition will take place from 16 September to 12 November 2023.
